Lake Millstatt - Carinthia

Lake Millstatt is situated in the province of Carinthia, in southern Austria. Millstatt took it's name (1000 statues) from the legendary Duke founder of Millstatt who ordered 1000 heathen statues to be thrown into the lake.

The small town of Millstatt is slightly elevated from the Millstättersee lake, and there are superb picturesque views all around. The lake itself is 11.5 km's long and up to 1.5 km's wide. At it's deepest point it's 142m deep, and can reach 25 degrees in summer. Carinthia and Lake Millstatt has a wonderful climate with very mild summers, but don't forgot the Austrian climate can be changeable, so be prepared for that surprise thunderstorm!
